The first enslaved Africans were brought to the U.S. in 1619. It is well-documented that before the Civil War in 1865 the education of Black Americans was illegal. 

Black-queer-only space-making is God’s work, not only because these spaces hold immense significance in the lives of those who inhabit them, but because they provide a sense of belonging and community where individuals can be their authentic selves without fear of rejection.

I want to talk about the significance of having spaces for the expression and articulation of Black Womanist Culture.
