The purpose of this proposal is to advocate for the inclusion of Black Social Work Pioneers in social work education, emphasizing the significance of their contributions and the importance of diversifying the curriculum. Historically, the narratives of Black social work pioneers have been marginalized or omitted altogether from mainstream social work education, hindering a comprehensive understanding of the profession’s evolution.
Black social work pioneers have played a pivotal role in shaping the field, contributing significantly to social justice, community development, and advocacy. However, their stories and accomplishments have often been overshadowed by a Eurocentric perspective, limiting the understanding of social work history. Integrating the narratives of Black social work pioneers is crucial for fostering an inclusive and diverse learning environment.
