Unsung s/Heroes: Women Social Work Pioneers

The workshop titled “Unsung s/Heroes: Women in Social Work” aims to shed light on the often-overlooked contributions of women pioneers in the field of social work. It is a call to recognize and celebrate the invaluable roles women have played in shaping the history and development of social work, while acknowledging the existing gap in available literature and the importance of rectifying this omission.

Throughout the history of social work, women have made remarkable and lasting contributions to the profession. They have played instrumental roles in advocacy, policy development, community engagement, and the overall advancement of social welfare. However, a glaring gap exists in the literature and discourse surrounding these women pioneers. Their stories, accomplishments, and challenges remain largely undocumented and overlooked. This workshop seeks to address this knowledge deficit and the resulting imbalance in historical representation.
